Poppers
Also known as:
Amyl, Rush, TNT, Rock, Hard, Kix, Liquid Gold
How do they work?
Poppers are sniffed, and dilate veins and arteries, making blood flow faster through the heart and brain.
Effects
Most people experience a rush immediately after sniffing poppers. After the initial rush, you may feel light headed for a few minutes. Some people may also experience headaches, dizziness and a flushed face.
Staying safe
- Take a break from poppers if you experience unpleasant sensations
- Wash liquid off immediately if it gets on your skin
- Avoid taking other drugs – especially stimulants (cocaine, ecstasy, speed) as these could put too much strain on your heart
- Avoid holding poppers in your mouth – swallowing the liquid can be fatal
- avoid using poppers if you have heart trouble or breathing problems, anaemia or glaucoma.
- Never smoke when using poppers – they are highly flammable, and they could go up in flames!
